Where are Single-Use Plastics Banned Around the World?
Plastic is not an enemy according to Erik Solheim Head of UN Environment 2018 “Plastic is a miracle material. Thanks to plastics, countless lives have been saved in the health sector, the growth of clean energy from wind turbines and solar panels has been greatly facilitated, and safe food storage has been revolutionized.” But it's cheapness and convenience is what's resulting in our planet’s greatest environmental challenges.
We love that one by one countries around the world is implementing a plastic ban. Different programs and rules to regulate and stop the use of single-use plastics, promoting sustainability and proper waste disposal, demonstrating that all nations, whether rich or poor, can become global environmental leaders.
As travelers, there is a tendency for us to use single-use plastics starting from the airplane almost all things the airlines give to its passengers from the food to toiletries are packaged in single-use plastic. Here at Daydream Republic we promote mindful travel and bring your own culture.
We thought it might be eye-opening to plot all the areas that have already banned single-use plastics or have passed bills and ordinances for this. See below those marked in blue.
We hope to update this from time-to-time, and hopefully, we'll see more areas that have banned single-use plastics next time!
You can see the full list of areas at the end of this blog. For our home country, the Philippines, we'll be preparing a separate blog.
CLIMATE ACTION!
This is the theme of 2020's Earth Day. In case your city has not yet banned single-use plastic, we encourage you to write to your leaders. More than just ranting online about how bad the plastic problem is, let's take specific action for a more wide-scale solution.
WRITE A LETTER
We have created a template that you could use to write to your leaders. If we want change, let's instigate it. Click this to download the template.
